It is uncommon, however it is a real risk. I'm not sure your any more likely to get sick on a cruise like this than from conventional travel though... think of it this way, there are roughly half a million people on a cruise on any given day and when a few hundred get sick it still makes the news.

My cousin from North Dakota tries to keep getting me to go on a cruise. I say no every time. Wouldn't go on one of those for anything... Did enough time at sea, umbrella drinks and stomach distress/explosive poop is not a great combo!

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Have you tried eating Greek Yogurt for IBS ? I have that too and the only thing that helped me is eating Greek yogurt everyday. Let me know, if you want, I have a recipe for it that makes it much cheaper.

Try a small ship like Oceania uses. Great food! 700 or 1200 passengers depending on the ship. Oceania is very bug phobic. Hand sanitizer dispensers are in just about every public area. The wait staff serves the buffet food. All these things keep the ships very clean.
I have been on four cruises since I left active duty and never once did I have to go to GQ.
