Great information from Harriet Nix!
RallyPoint VA Beneficiaries Who Don't File Tax Returns Have Until May 5th to Take Action to Receive $500 Per Eligible Child With Their Economic Impact Payments This Year
Last Friday, the IRS announced that veterans and survivors who receive VA benefits but do not file federal tax returns, must make a special fling no later than May 5th to have $500 per eligible child added automatically to their forthcoming Economic Impact Payment.
As we reported last week, VA recently announced an agreement with the IRS so veterans and survivors who receive VA disability compensation, pension or DIC (Disability and Indemnity Compensation) but do not file federal taxes will also soon begin receiving Economic Impact Payments, $1,200 per person, or $2,400 per couple.
However, because the IRS does not have current information about dependent children for non-filers, these VA beneficiaries must complete a special filing by May 5th in order to receive the additional $500 per eligible dependent with their Economic Income Payment this year. If this dependent child information is not submitted by May 5th, they will have to make another filing next year with that information to receive the additional amount.
If you are a VA beneficiary with dependent children and have not filed a 2018 or 2019 federal tax return, you should take action as soon as possible - not later than May 5th - to ensure your dependency information is correct and updated.
