Hello everyone. One of the biggest goals I'd like to achieve in my military career is to attend and pass Ranger School. I also joined in order to do Civil Affairs. If selected would I have the ability to go to Ranger School? Would Civil Affairs prepare me in the small unit tactics / patrolling that Ranger School assesses? Any information from 38 Series / SOF personnel would be greatly appreciated!

Can you attend Ranger school as a 38B SOF CA Soldier. Of course. Will it eat up almost HALF of your pre-mission training time, absolutely. Will the CA course prepare you for the Army Camping School, not at all.

SSG (Join to see) having something in a contract is more guaranteed than dealing with your unit, training calendar, funding, deployments, etc

CW2 (Join to see) - you can NOT get Ranger school in an initial entry contract

SSG (Join to see) - Like I said before. With Opt 40, they would attend RASP. Once Selected, Regt will send them to Ranger School.
Otherwise he's at the mercy of the unit and their nightmare of a PT plan and training schedule, people who play god with schools, and other roadblocks.
I know Op 40 doesn't provide a slot at Ranger School, but it is still the most definite way to get a school slot.

SSG (Join to see), what CW2 (Join to see) refers is a path to, not end of it. I do agree with him, Option 40 gets a person in a faster track (so long he/she is a GO on all stations) to the school than a conventional unit.

Going to Ranger school requires a school seat. Getting a school seat is the hurdle.
Plenty of folks outside of the Infantry and outside of the Army from other countries/Military branches have attended Ranger school. All they needed was a school seat and to pass the screening.
Don’t overthink it

Most CA personnel are on Ft Bragg, which just so happens to have one of the best Small Unit Ranger Tactics Course (SURT) in the conventional army to teach you everything you need to pass Ranger School. You'll just have to convince your leadership to send you.

The most successful Conventional SURT is the NG training site at Ft Benning. Well... when I was in the ARTB it was anyway.
