7 July 1944: XX Bomber Command B-29s conduct their first raid on Japan from bases in the Chengdu area of southern China.
Such missions were extremely logistics intensive and rarely did B-29s conduct more than one mission a month against targets on Kyūshū, the southernmost of Japan's major home islands.

Don't you appreciate the "curves", aesthetics, fine engineering from the hand built & hand tuned engines. Never the less the history they had to contribute within the military as well as our history?
I think they are absolutely stunning! Like a fine tuned 454 In an old classic Ford truck? It's extremely appealing and a thing of rare beauty!
