It can be worn by anyone that’s in a unit that’s flagged as Cavalry as long as it’s approved. Generally, each unit has local guidance as far as who can wear it and when.

Stetsons are worn by anyone assigned to a CAV unit/squadron. Pilots of CAV aviation units are authorized their wear, as are crew members of armored vehicles in the Armored CAV.
Hope this helps PFC James (LURCH) Janota.

If you're in a Cavaly unit. When I was in 11th ACR (when it was heavy Cavalry), We had Infanty, Artillery, Air, Air Defense, Mortars, Commo, Military Intel and all sorts of other MOSs. All wore their Stetsons with a cord that was their branch color. Our tankers wore yellow as did the Scouts.
They used to say, "Cavarly is a state of mind.", meaning Combined FireS on the Point of Contact.
