We had a guy in basic we called Alphabet that was pretending to be mental and our group was his third time thru basic.

I guess he took it too seriously when the DIs told him to go chase a plane if he wanted to leave so badly.
It's a psychological game DIs in San Diego were notorious for. They catch a recruit looking at the planes flying in and out of San Diego's airport, and then they'd order the recruits to go "chase" the planes.
Not something I directly witnessed as I went through via Parris Island on the other coast, but it's something I've heard among those who went through San Diego.
