To patch or not to patch?
Currently, my vest has no patches on the back. I bought the "Air Force" and "Retired" rockers but my wife thinks it needs a center to look right. I'm afraid it would look to much like a MC three piece set. What are your opinions on back patches?
*UPDATE 12/11/16* Just got word from the local Confederation of Clubs. The short answer was "Don't". They also said to bring the actual patches I am considering and they would help me come up with something that shouldn't offend any MC's.

Put the patch on.... It looks bad a$$ with it on there and don't worry, actual MC's will know you're not a patched member of a club. Also, as a bonus; regular civvies don't know the difference, maybe it'll keep grandma Ethel from tailgating you?

Nice try... I think your statement is just a bit of fear mongering, OOOOH beware the motorcycle boogie man!

I have been an American Legion rider for years and 3 piece patches are worn and have never been questioned or confronted. We are NOT an MC nor do we even make an attempt at that.

As long as you don't have the following
A state bottom rocker
A club name or chapter name on the back or front
A 1% diamond anywhere
A MC patch anywhere on the vest
And to be clear that is a patch that just has "MC" on it
You will be fine
A full patch member may look at it , then they will just pass you
Just get familiar with the MC protocols so you don't "offend " a 1%er
And on a side note
I am a 3 piece patch MC member
And also that's badass rock it !!

Thanks for the info SFC Daniel Faires. I've already had one MC tell me to not do a 3 piece but did offer to help me design something.

MSgt Steven Holt, NRP, CCEMT-P - When they hear or think three piece they are thinking of what they wear. Not what you have !
Now on that note I would if it's easily available talk to a full patch MC member and they will basically give you the green light
Also
Just a piecE of advice do t use the term brother to anyone until they use it first with you
That is a huge No go
People who ride like to throw that term around ALOT !!
until they truly are your brother and they will drop everything to help you and vice versa and I mean drop everything no matter what time of day or night
They aren't your brother

Roger that! I made that mistake once. And ONLY once! I got a very direct education (thankfully nothing violent) on who is and is NOT my brother. It's a lesson I have not forgotten.

Your local COC says don't, then don't. They exist to do many things, like keep the peace and work to support biker's rights.
Go work with them. It's worth it in the short and long tun.

That's exactly what I've opted for Sgt Douglas O'Neal. The COC was very helpful in suggesting other designs. Most of the clubs were ok with my original design but the dominate 1%'er club is the one who objected. Contacting the COC was a great opportunity in and of itself. I've been riding for a few years but I found out I don't know nearly as much about the motorcycle community as I thought I did.
