The old stand-by Military Police phrase. "Sir, don't confuse your rank with my authority".
I used to hate it when I found out that my soldiers used that phrase, until I had to use it several times myself... :-)

I once told a Drill SGT at FLW. when I addressed him as SGT and he corrected me that it was Dril Sargent .I asked him to the front of the truck to talk to him,,he refused said I would come to him.... I then told him he was not my drill SGT... he proceeded to "brim" me with his brown round.. At which point I pepper sprayed him... I was just trying to get him away from his trainees... worse part.. he was an MP drill SGT... and was just getting a warning for speeding..

COL Jean (John) F. B. I used to smoke my guys for using that. I hated it with such a passion. It always escalated everything. I made sure my guys always used the most respect possible. They may be using a PR-24 to turn a convex skull concave, but they better be saying SGT or Sir while doing it.
