Saturday's Topic: "What's Behind Your Mask?"
Join Mikel Saturday evening and let's get together online for the Warriors for Life (WFL) and talk about "What's Behind Your Mask?"
Many Veterans, First Responders, Caregivers, and Family Member where "Masks!" when it comes to Mental Health. When you come up to them and say, "Hi, How are you doing? They will say, "I'm Fine!" This is usually the typical answer. The default response “I’m fine” rarely changes even on the days when we are not feeling fine at all. That’s especially true if we feel unwell due to a mental health issue. Hiding behind the "Mask!" of mental health challenges and leads many people to suffer in silence and keeps them from seeking help.
Let's explore first "What's Behind Your Mask?" and ways to remove "I'm Fine Mask!" and "Starting Talking!" with "Burly's Warriors!"

Some older folks still have problem with a "mental health" label when they need space to deal with emotional upset, to analyze it, let it settle, and come to terms with what unchecked evil does in the world when it it not nipped in the bud - and to come to terms with their own part in it. No doubt counseling makes it more manageable for some to be able to process and rise above devastating feelings (like ptsd and cptsd).
However, in decades past such a label made one a societal pariah in several ways - like job opportunity, insurance costs, and being labeled as a potential dangerous societal problem. We are told that is no longer how it is. However, even women in the WWII generation and those before them were institutionalize by family for being crazy, that these days is considered to be post partum depression (a soft peddling of treatable "crazy"). So it is recognized as treatable these days, even though it was not in the WWII generation if their children lived through it and the lingering effects of it. Apparently it is no longer a stigma to have in one's medical records. Given outcomes of actuarial profiling (based on data collected accurate or not) one has to wonder.
