Does anyone have an example of requesting 1sg consideration?

I have zero experience in the NG world. IN the RA world I lived in, a SFC or MSG might make it known they wanted a 1SG slot, but for the most part the BN CSM already knew who they planned on putting in an upcoming 1SG slot through past observation of senior NCO's in the unit. Occasionally a more senior leader ..BDE or DIV CSM/ CMD will direct or otherwise provide guidance as to who should get a 1SG slot.
Bottom line, I've never seen or heard of a formal selection process or a "packet" being submitted. My suggestion is, set up and make an office call with your CSM, let the CSM know that you want the slot, why, what you can do for the unit, what your goals are and then ask, how can I best support the CSM and CDR's goals and mission?

Agree with Eric....I was a NG for my last 20 years and had no formal request to apply for a 1SG position.

I have seen it one of two ways. First, and much more common, was simply an in person conversation with CSM. Second was a packet which was submitted to CSM. Packet included leadership philosophies; bio; weapon qual: pt card; last 5 NCOERs, or 3 years, whichever was greater; and priorities for improving the unit. It was laid out on an MOI for candidates to apply. But that was for a slot as the 1SG for the HHC of a 2-star Command, with the Nominative CSM - and about 400 other Soldiers, plus 300 civilians - within the Company. (I still don't know how it wasn't a BN - my "platoon" was over 250 personnel.). Not exactly a "normal" 1SG position.

I’m assuming you’re not in a transportation unit. 88M’s need to have their Truck Master under their belt before they are considered for a 1st Sgt position. At least that’s the way it was when I was in. In 20 years of active duty I’ve never seen an E7 in a 1SG slot. I was a field 1ST for Saint Helens, clean up after it blew it’s top, but that was a temporary assignment. I finally got my 1SG slot over a HHC COSCOM unit. I had over 400 people. Most of them officers. My company commander was a Major. Most the officers were higher ranking than he was. Trying to get a platoon of LTC, full birds and a 2 star general to take their PT test was a lot of fun.

Not yet, this was just requested from my Readiness nco for my packet. I was a little confused about it myself!
