Old Colt Commander's story, update 12-13-18

Well, first of all, I would like to acknowledge all you RP members who followed me in this Old Colt Commander restore journey. If you're new to the story, the first post was on 12-3-18 in the Firearms and Guns section on RP.
The gun served in the Guam Police Narcotic's, Homicide divisions, and police street work close to 20 years, back since 1982.

With eight actual hours work on my Old Colt Commander, and eleven days spread of those work hours, here it is, it still has deep rust pits, but that's the nature of all the rust that was on the gun when I first got it back on 12-03-18. The total cost of the restore was, $ 202.95 parts, and cerakoting.

It turned out functional and able to operate, with some new parts, a trigger, magazine release, slide stop, grip screws, and Colt rubber grips. Everything else came with the gun when I first bought it in 1979, I kept the brushed nickel hammer, main spring housing and grip safety even if it showed wear, nicks, dings, and some nickel worn off, the parts were still in fine shape to use. Believe me, it feels real good in the hand.

I wanted to save some money for my next gun project which is a Rock Island Armory 1911 "Plain Jane", that I got the other day, and posted it on RP, that is why I didn't spend more money on the Commander, like a stainless new slide, barrel and bushing that would have cost me $400, the Commander only cost $200+ back in 1979, when I was only making $5 an hour as a new cop.

I think all will enjoy the work that I did after seeing the pictures, and let me tell you, "It was Fun", and hope you all had fun following the restore. You know half of the enjoyment was letting, and keeping you informed in the progress of work being done.

I hope you have a "Big Smile" on your face as I do now writing the update, the pleasure was all mine. Now onto the next gun project, and I'll keep you all informed of the progress.

SALUTE! "All the Way Airborne"
