WHEELER AIR BASE during the Japanese attack, December 7th 1941 Pearl Harbor Day. The first two photos show Wheeler Army Airfield on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. just after the attack on December 7th 1941. From mid 1977-80, I served as an Army Aviator at Wheeler AFB. There were still many remnants of the attack from December 7, 1941. Machine gun bullet holes in and around the hangars, and the abandoned bunkers in the Waiele "Gulch Runway", adjacent to the field.
