I just recently started in an E6 slot with maintenance in an ARNG military police company. Since the Motor Sargeant is assigned to a separate det from me, I act as Motor Sargeant for the det I'm in. This particular company has a long history of not conducting PMCS as well as basically not allowing maintenance to do its job. I have some talking points in mind, but how do I sell maintenance to a command team that supposedly doesn't care about their equipment?

They don’t care about maintenance, too easy. Have your mechanics T.I the equipment to the “T” and any deadlining faults should be addressed and placed on the ESR. The ESR is the face of the units maintenance program. It shows the Commander hey your equipment readiness isn’t up to par and what are you going to do about it being that is is the CO’s program. Simply saying if they don’t want to care for their own equipment then the will once over eyes see 60% of the fleet is unusable due to faults. Ect ect. Hopes this makes sense. Also as the Motor Sergeant you should go sit with your XO and discuss your concerns about this. I’m an Active duty motor sergeant if you have any questions hmu

I appreciate the advice. The entire motorpool was ran through thoroughly by the MPs with my mechanics right next to them and we found more faults than I have ever seen. The entire command team is pretty much on board with everything.

Remind you commander that maintenance is his or hers program.
How are not allowing you to do your job?
Change the way your motorpool is. They might not like it and you might get your ass chewed but do fold. They were allowed to get away with being sloppy because no one cared. Start caring. You wont win brownie points but that not why we do what we do.

It isn't me personally. I ended up talking with the commander and there was alot of drama with the previous maintenance leadership. I gave my professional recommendations as well as already proving to them that I can get the work done. The command team is all for it.

I was a 63B Light Vehicle Mechanic 1983-91 and just let the Commander know that if your equipment isn't ready here then how will it be ready when needed when your shipped out for combat.
