Ahhhh, motor stables every Monday morning, regardless of the weather. I can recall many a cold morning in 1996 and 1997 at Fort Campbell, KY doing this. Cold, hot, wet, washracks, etc.

I was never in a transportation unit. I was always in a support company. All my deployments that involved a transportation like we do in field exercises I’ve only done one run that actually had transporting cargo was with special forces and we went to pick up a captured weapon cache. All other times I was driving uparmors to the objective to be more of an infantry support role. The others were running ECP’s and even a dentaine hold area while I was assigned to an MP unit. The best advice I can give is anything can happen and you could be put anywhere and do any job. Pay attention to those whose already been in the unit and always expect the unexpected.
