I am a student at the University of Colorado psychiatric nurse practitioner program, and desperately need an internship for the fall semester. We have to find our own placement and I am having a difficult time. I have a family nurse practitioner for 17 years, and this is a post-masters certificate. I need 135 hours, which is about 2 8 hour days a week, September through November. Children, adolescents, adults...I live near Boulder, CO.

If you don't mind my asking, are these normally paid or unpaid internships? I'm familiar with health administration internships (which are normally paid), but not with patient care-focused internships. Have you tried the VA to see if they can facilitate something? The availability of funding (for a paid internship) could present an obstacle.

It’s unpaid. I’m actually paying the school for the credits obtained during the clinical practicum. The VA would be a great experience but this semester I need to do some child psychiatry. I get my healthcare at the VA so maybe my doctor knows someone I can talk to for next semester. Thank you, sir!

MAJ Elisabeth Fabrizio - I sent a note to someone I know at Denver Health (on the admin side). Hopefully he can facilitate a connection into the child psychiatry lane to see if anyone might be interested. I'll keep you posted.

I know this is a bit of a older topic, and thus a short in the dark, but is there an Army PMHNP and/or an Army psych nurse that would be willing to talk to me about the number of slots, promotion potential and shadowing opportunities?

Thank you!

They will hook you up at your first duty station and many CNO require you to shadow before you can do a course.

Understood sir. I know I want to go for my APRN and I’ve been leaning towards CRNA. But the more I think about PMHNP to more interested I become. I was hoping, against hope, to find an Army PMHNP ahead of time to ask some questions.

Thank you.

Ma'am, you reached out to me earlier this year and I wasn't in a position to help. Are you still looking for a placement?
