A few weeks ago SGT Efaw (Mick) G. started a discussion on Smartwatches and Uniforms, https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/smartwatches-and-uniforms. Also there's another discussion from Maj Ahron Oddman about smartwatches https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/smart-watch-smart-warriors. With the new ACLARAT, do you have to get rid of your new Smartwatch? Has it affect you in any way? Can you still use your Fitbit ;) https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/fitbit-fever-has-it-caught-you I remember TSgt Joshua Copeland mentioned something about working in a SCIF, has it impact you?

SGT(P) (Join to see), our newest iteration of our dress and appearance AFI came out and specifically allows them, however, they are still a no go in AF classified processing area and SCIFs.

I haven't seen someone do it yet either SGT(P) (Join to see) . The change is all of 11 days old. I am waiting for someone to lose their mind!

There is always someone that wants to use the regs to their limit with the excuse that "it was approved". TSgt Joshua Copeland I already envy you because you can use headphones in uniform at the track.

We aren't allowed Headphones in uniform however as the FitBit Surge looks just like a standard digital watch with a black band, it is within regs even before the change.

SSG Derek Scheller here is the AF rule.
6.3.3.1.Wear/use of an earpiece, any blue tooth technology or headphones, while in uniform, indoors or outdoors, is prohibited, unless specifically authorized for the execution of official duties. (Exception: Headphones and earphones (IPods, MP3 type players, etc.) are authorized during air travel and/or while wearing the physical training uniform (PTU) during individual or personal PT in the fitness center or on designated running areas unless prohibited by the installation commander). Use of a hands-free device is authorized while in uniform operating a motor vehicle if local policy permits.
6.3.3.2.While walking in uniform use of personal electronic media devices, including ear pieces, speaker phones or text messaging is limited to emergencies or when official notifications are necessary. Military customs and courtesies take precedence

Your duty and location will determine if you can or cannot wear it. I think these rules are the same as cell phones rules. So before getting to the location take them off and after leaving location put them back on. So to answer the question, I do not think Alaract 084/2015 will affect how you wear smart whatches. It is more of when can you wear them.

This is interesting. Working in a SCIF both in my military and civilian capacities, this could be a game-changer. I have a Pebble (original, KickStarter edition) that I would love to be able to keep with me. I know people that have FitBit too.
As for outside of the SCIF, I was happy that they allow tracking devices with the fitness uniform. I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to track my status on the run using the pebble (and the phone on an armband tucked under the sleeve) when taking an APFT.

Sir, good to see that we are stationed at the same post. I'm a Fitbit user myself and I'm glad that I can still use it at work. I would love to be able to track my status with the fitness uniform but I haven't find an armband that fits my arms, they barely fit in the sleeves. However, I would like to know how they would identify these smartwatches since some of them don't look smart at all, i.e. the picture attached. MAJ (Join to see)

That's the advantage of the Pebble. If I wanted, I could tuck the phone away. There is a cheat, though: get one of the armbands where the case is rubber and separate from the strap, and you can actually hook it right onto the PT belt. (Edit: if you do that, the PT belt has to be cinched much tighter than normal.)

I use the fitbit surge and I love it. It tracks my steps, run, heartrate, and just about everything else I need.
Oh...and it is a standard digital watch.
