Young children talking back and forth with adults strengthens brain language region

My father spent more time with me than my mother (she had to work after he became disabled) and he talked a lot with me. and used complex words (he was fond of doing that) I learned a multitude of “big” words like parsimonious, copacetic, canard, superfluous, etc. I carried that tradition on with my seven children. When disciplining them it was a bit lopsided, mostly talking to them about why they were being punished. The conversation was more balanced at other times. What I experienced seemed to support the findings of the study’s brain scans. My children are all very good at language skills. One is a linguist, another is a CRNA (past SGT in US Marines) and they all love reading more than watching. Quick wits all. They keep my laughing at their deft quips. Sorry, just a proud papa I suppose; however, I believe I experienced the conclusions of this study first hand. It is never too soon to speak in sentences that expand your child’s vocabulary... but don’t be grandiloquent.

Rachel Cruz (daughter of Dave Ramsey) always says "more is caught than taught" which means even when you aren't talking to your kids you are teaching them.

So it's not always what you say; but, what you do that is important.
