Sir, while at the NCO Academy our instructors pounded in to our heads, over and over and over and over that we were responsible for training our Plt Ldrs. If our Plt Ldr wasn't a good one, it was our fault and you should kill yourself.

Sgt Phil Quintana - I would say that is 80% correct on developing a successful 2LT. Some officers are destined to being paper tigers for various misgivings.

I would love to see a Cadet try to order around anyone above a PFC while still keeping their ass in the same place.
I spent time on both sides. 2 years as a ROTC Cadet and 8 years enlisted. As a Cadet my number one priority was to listen. I had NCOs around me with more Time in Service than I had Time on Earth. I carried a notepad EVERYWHERE. And still do to write things down and learn. As an enlisted soldier I had a Cadet "try" and tell my section to take off our CIBs and overseas patches. My squad leader (E-6) and I pulled out a quarter to determine which one of us would give the Cadet some woodline counseling.

LOL...the first part was really funny...the second part, about the notepad, I actually started doing that once I got on active, and started to even halfway learning how to function in the role semi-correctly, so that, too, was a quite pithy observation, certainly...I did really love that first part....

As SSG Lauren Manuel has stated, I have always called them sir/ma’am. They always correct me and tell me to call them cadet and I simply explain to them that there going to graduate and accept their commission that’s why we call them sir/ma’am.

I used to call cadets "future sir and future ma'am" lol. Not the right answer but it was my way to be respectful while still reminding them they weren't an O just yet
