No surprises there, but I've always been leery of appraisals that use numbers to represent strength. The doctrine of many countries with huge numbers of aircraft actually prevents them from being truly effective.

I can understand that, and it is one way of measuring size! Then there is the size of available and serviceable aircraft at any one time... and I am sure that there are other metrics which may change the overall size of any nations air force, army, navy and more...

I've been guilty of using the term "Chair Force" at times, but I KNOW that air power has pulled many a G. I.'s bacon out of the fire!!!

I can vividly recall letters from units and individuals that showed up on our briefing room walls after B-52 strikes in Vietnam. We never saw you but we pulled many of you out of dicey situations.
