Water levels in the Ogallala Aquifer continue to plummet as farm irrigation swallows an average of more than 2 billion gallons of groundwater per day statewide. But after decades of mostly inaction from Kansas leaders, the state’s approach to water conservation might finally be starting to shift.
WALLACE COUNTY, Kansas — The Ogallala Aquifer has a visibility problem.
It’s easy to see when drought, farm irrigation and city taps drain the great reservoirs of the Southwest. Bathtub rings paint the red rock walls surrounding Lake Powell as it shrinks, sounding alarm bells loud and clear.
What about a body of water that’s locked away in a subterranean labyrinth of gravel and rock reaching more than 300 feet underground?

Water is the heartbeat of farming and life. You lose access to water and humans, animals, and crops will cease to exist.
I doubt anyone has thought to build desalination units on a major scale to use some of the water from the various oceans of the world.
Navy ships turn saltwater into potable water continuously underway.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Or the fact that they call water hours, and designate a 2-hour period that potable water will be turned on, so six hundred guys try to take showers during that period. Result, no water pressure, and the hot water only lasted for about 20 minutes, even with being forced to take 3-minute Navy showers.

I say 600 guys because there were no females aboard the Arkansas and I don't think females ever served on the Arkansas before it was decommissioned.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - If I remember correctly when I served aboard the New Orleans (LPD-18), the ship was using a ton of water and they couldn't find out why. They put us on water hours to conserve water, but water was still being used at a high rate. After some intense inspections, ship's laundry had a at a potable water leak. It was fixed and water hours were secured. Silly SH's. ;)
