Why the M-60 Is One of America's Most Feared Machine Guns

I remember using one of these when I was in Basic Training for like 3 minutes or so. One of the largest grins I think I had during that whole time.

One of the many weapons I used a lot while in Vietnam. Shown in this picture is Me with an M60 within a old French bunker located on a perimeter post at Da Nang Air Base. You may notice there is plenty of ammo loaded and ready to fire. This post overlooks a rice paddy and a Vietnamese village sit on the other side of it. On the top above We had a M60 and there was a Vietnamese Guard also with a WWII vintage 30 caliber machine gun in another nearby bunker.

The M60s issued to our units in 1966 Vietnam had feed pawl assembly problems led to jamming don't know if it was ever addressed later,do know I was too skinny and weak to carry the "Pig" but they made sure I carried my allotted 200 rounds of 7.62 with all our other junk!
