Yes my dad side of the family has this type of attitude they are not very affectionate people.

PFC (Join to see) - About the way my late father was brought up. Grandma showed the affection, grandpa didn't.

I dated both a Ainu girl and a i Okinawan girl at different times and neither was all that reserved. The Culture in Japan is less uniform than it is in the US

Yes my grandpa was often similar he wasn't a very affectionate person but you knew he cared he just wouldn't openly hug you or get really emotional I was one of the exceptions with my brother I think with time in America he mellowed out but especially you can tell from my dad and his siblings they are like that.
