Why Do so Many Egyptian Statues Have Broken Noses?

I read the article, so I am staying mum.

My guess... They stuck their noses where they don't belong.

(You had to know someone was gonna do it.)

I think it is a center of gravity issue in that the majority of the weight is on the front of the statue or bust and hence they tend to fall forward when they fall and the nose is the most pertruding object on the face so it breaks off first.
