Who is pushing women into combat roles? I haven't seen a lot of influx of them requesting those jobs. The Army has the OPAT you take at MEPS. Like the PT version of the ASVAB. If you score high enough you can pick jobs like infantry - male or female. If you don't, you can't get those jobs. I believe it's gender neutral. I'm not sure.
If someone can't research their options in the military before joining that is their problem. No one makes anyone join.

Fact: When you impose quotas, you are laying the foundation for a push to fill those numbers. I have been around the military personnel system long enough to see quotas used to "push" a given social program and this case 10% was mentioned in the opinion piece. But beyond your reaction to my use of the word "push", you would have to be completely oblivious to miss the news write ups that are creeping into our collective consciousness about women in more dangerous roles. It is called "setting the table" in propaganda terms.

What quotas? I haven't seen or heard anything about quotas on women in combat arms and I'm friends with a recruiter.
I'm not the only one who said I see no push. The push I see is to fill the cyber slots. That's the push I see.

I must question your assertion: I think that we need to re-examine pushing women into close combat roles.
Are we "pushing?" I don't see that. I don't even see many commercials "pushing" the military life for anyone, male or female.
A person, man or woman, should look at the options and make their own choice. Isn't that what America is all about, freedom of choice?

I have seen the Army pushing the cyber MOS in their commercials more than anything else.

Apparently you may or may not read the article, but definite reference to quota. And I quote: "The Department of Defense is committed to increasing numbers of women in the ranks without delay. The commandant of the Marine Corps — considered the toughest of the armed services when it comes to physical requirements — has nonetheless set a goal: 10% of new recruits for all its jobs will be women." That is a quota by any other name. This is how bureaucracies by setting "goals" and ask any recruiter just what happens when you miss your goal.

Combat roles should never be "pushed" on to anyone. Furthermore there should be one physical standard. If you want to compete with warriors to be a warrior, you should meet one standard. Do you want an equal role? Meet equal standards. Do not lower the standards, however!
