I have insurance through AAFMAA. After my injuries I was unable to get insurance elsewhere. I checked through the VA, but it was more expensive for less coverage. AAFMAA allowed me to get a large policy for myself and another for my wife.

If you are religious, many faiths offer life insurance for its members and their respective family members. For example, I am a third degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, a religious men’s organization. For years, I was a member of the Knights after I retired from the Army. I then found they would cover me while I was an intelligence contractor in Iraq back in 2007-08. On Easter Sunday, 2008, I was injured in a mortar attack on Camp Bucca. As a result, I have received 6 surgeries on my neck and back to correct spine injuries. My rates have not changed or benefits reduced as a result of my injuries.
