Idmasked about that, or mentioned at any rate, about the USS Oriskany, that was in fact sunk as an artificial reef a few years ago, maybe off Florida, I'm sure there are YouTube videos on it, I'd seem a documentary on it, the interior was filmed when it was done, showing the flooding of the interior, you might care to look it up, if I find it, I'll try to send it....

A problem is utilization. The carrier's use du jour is air power. That air power's role/goal is bombing things. So take the range of the planes and times it by the range of your planes. If your plane has a range of 1000 miles and the USN's planes have a range of 1000 miles, then you can kill the carrier with air power. If however, your planes lag behind the USN's in range, then the range itself puts the carrier that much further away from you. This means you then have to attack the carrier with subs or ships. Ships is problematic as carriers have planes for just the purpose of sinking ships. So while your goodinov class latest scare-fest Russian cruiser with its 9000 cruise missiles is able (on paper) to kill the carrier, it must first sortie to within range of its missiles and hope that the carriers own aircraft don't kill it first.

Lastly but not leastly is the good old submarine threat. Yes, we have those Euro sports car subs with the super dooper air handling this, ultra quiet that, but they are - diesel boats. Not deep ocean racers. So your only bet would be a nuclear sub. In that arena there's quite a few nations unfriendly to us that have them. But note that the USN carrier has a sub or two OF ITS OWN underwater for just this contingency. And a quiet sub waiting for a loud transiting sub is "game over" from the first down. Also note that your sub launched cruise missile needs targeting input which your sub can't provide. So the sign of approaching aircraft to guide that missile would be a sure sign of an approaching sub.
