I guess if you have the Operating System on a Restore Disk so that if something really terrible happens and you have to rebuild, you would want to backup all those things that you consider sacred. I keep everything irreplaceable in my MyDocuments folder and that is the folder I backup on a regular basis. If my computer becomes stupid and I have to rebuild, I rebuild and then copy the MyDocuments folder back over.

Anything irreplaceable. Photos, writing, etc. Most everything else is easily replaced. But the truth is that in this day and age, you should have a good cloud storage solution, so traditional 'backup' should be moot, if you're smart.

PO1 Andrew Gardiner - Yep, couldn't agree more. Solutions with negligent prices are available easily. You don't have to back everything up. You only have to back up the things that are hard/impossible to replace. For example, I have a picture of my mom from the mid-60's. She's got a beehive 'do, and would seem...weird, these days. But to me, that pic is precious. So that, I have in like, 3 cloud storages. But, say, operating system? Too easy to replace. Doesn't require any special care.
