What do we actually know about the Russia-Assange-hacking allegations?

This whole thing about the hacking of the DNC and WikiLeaks has me perplexed. From the reports I have seen, it appears as though Russian actors were responsible for the breach. Apparently they installed a back door into the system using malware (Agent-X).
Once this backdoor is installed, anyone with the right tools can access the system. While it is known what tool was used for the breach, is there any way to really tell who downloaded the data?
WikiLeaks maintains that Russia did not provide the data, given the type of event we are discussing, I would doubt that someone representing the Russian Government would overtly expose this kind of information, I suspect they would use a third party.
Facts as we know them are:
Agent-X is the preferred tool of a Russian hacker with ties to the Kremlin.
Agent-X was used to hack the DNC servers.
Podesta's email was hacked via a spearphishing attack.
How many other hackers in the world use or have access to Agent-X? This is not a close hold application as it has been "in the wild" for several years.
What perplexes me is what do we really know about this breach? It seems to be a lot of circumstantial evidence, but no real proof. We may never know the real story.

What do we really know about the allegations... the simple answer is that it's a big smokescreen to distract the American public in order to delegitimize a Trump Presidency.

We know what we know, but we don't know what we don't know. All I know is that the Dems in general and Obama/Hillary/et al have a narrative to push and they can't be bothered with the kind of rational analysis you offer

Podesta's password was 'password'. Podesta clicked on numerous phishing emails.
And to think this is the same crew who claim Hillary's private email server in the basement was fully protected and the Russians never got into the State Dept servers.

It is amazing how many people use "password". I have a tool that uses a dictionary attack and it starts with the most common passwords. It isn't hard.

What really bothers me is how the political appointees designated to lead our nation's intelligence services are using their positions to make false analyses for partisan gains. This is absolutely wrong. I understand the desire to protect individual ideology; however, THEIR FIRST LOYALTY SHOULD BE TO THIS NATION, NOT THEIR POLITICAL PARTY.
