The main books I have read have all backed that they were introduced into Japanese POW populations for intelligence gathering. The Japanese were trained never to surrender. So once you captured one, the idea of "name-rank-serial number" didn't exist to them. So the Nisei that were in the far East were kept back behind the lines for the purpose of planting them within prisoner populations. "Hey how are ya? What unit were you with? Oh really - I was with the ..."

I do not think the link is entirely accurate. Other than the Nisei serving in the Japanese military service, I believe the Nisei segregated units served in North Africa and Europe. Although there may have been individual exceptions. These are my beliefs, I cannot provide historical references.
