I worked in the withdrawal forces in Iraq 2010-11. I always felt we should've left a military presence in Iraq. Al Asad would've been a perfect spot a military base in the western desert in the middle of no where. We could've been rotating a brigade size force. This would've deterred ISIS or similar groups going into Iraq.
However, I'm just stating my opinion.

Until we address the fundamental geopolitical, economic, and societal tensions that give such militants credence in the eyes of the populace, the conflict will continue. Addressing those issues is not a job for the military. It lies in the realm of diplomacy and other civilian agencies. Finding solutions to those intractable problems takes years; not something our fast-food society enjoys.

I agree those are not war issues... war issues is you destroy enemy... you find enemy you beat his head in with brick... you find enemy city.,.. you burn it to the ground... you find enemy treasure,, you take it for yourself...

well when you start fighting a war on ISIS they will retract... What we call a war is laughable... Obama put so much restriction on combat that it is not a war... It is we yell at ISIS really loud and then ISIS shoots up a gay bar...
