I think it's getting better. I notice this more so in the civilian community. Veterans day is fun. I am appreciative of the honor they offer Veterans in Restaurants. When it comes to this gray lady of 5'3" They look all around me and ask. " Anyone a Veteran?" REPLY: " Yes, Me" Love the surprise on their faces.

SGT (Join to see) - haha The restaurant. I love the VA.. I only had a problem with on great intimidator Primary FEMALE doctor. I requested a change and they gave me another doctor. Then that doctor left and they don't have one for me. So they sent me on the open market. I would prefer to be with the VA as all your health stuff stays together. Test required, routine reminders. Things like that. I feel I am spread all over the place.

I agree with CPT Barbara Smith I like my physician at the regular clinic. I have been seeing her for the last 10 years and wouldn't trade my PCP for anyone!!

LTC Stephen F. I beg to differ. I am treated with the utmost respect and dignity. I've been going to the VA since 2001 when I accidentally found out that I could seek medical care. I've had the same primary care physician all of these years. Whether I go to the clinic or to the Hospital (Audie Murphy) I have never been treated badly...I've never been dismissed or over looked because I am a female and never been mistaken for a visitor and not a VET. I have no complaints what so ever. I do feel bad when I hear other VA facilities treat VETS poorly and some are down right disgraceful, but my VA and a handful of others are awesome! I have said for years, the other VA facilities should send their administrators down here for a month to learn how to do it the RIGHT way.
my VA calls me and mails me every year to make an appointment for a GYN checkup and makes another appointment to get a Mammogram and an appointment for a regular yearly check up from my primary care doc. The never forget to call me.

Sgt Kelli Mays, 18 years ago when I began going to the VA here in Houston, I befriended three women who had been in combat support roles in Iraq. All three had been sexually assaulted by their PS, or SL. It took them a long time to come forward and file a PTSD claim. Instead of one on one counciling, they were put in a group with all male vets. You think they wanted to describe why they filed a claim? Hell no they didn’t. So myself and two other older vets were able to win their confidence and we helped them with their claim and to get some one on one with a female councilor. It was a damned shame they were treated like that. We hung out and became good friends and they eventually seemed to get better. After our six month program, I lost touch with them, but I never forgot about them. I’m really glad you haven’t had any problems, but some women vets aren’t as fortunate as you are. I get so pissed off when I see one of the VA employees giving them a hard time. I’m old and cranky and I step in and raise hell for them. It doesn’t bother me one bit to embarrass assholes.

SSgt Michelle Chadwick - Wow! You are kidding. I have never met a female VET that is embarrassed to admit they served. I am sure they are out there. I wish someone would/could reach out to them and let them know, it's okay....be proud! and take advantage of what the VA has to offer.

SGT (Join to see) - The VA should come up with a plan to specifically reach out and let these female VETS know that there is a place for them to come...to get treatment...and counseling...that it's not like it was when they served.
