US Navy christens guided-missile destroyer USS Harvey C. Barnum Jr.

The ship is named after retired Marine Corps Col. Harvey C. Barnum Jr., who received the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the Vietnam War during an action outside Ky Phu, Quang Tin Province, Vietnam.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Carlos Del Toro, who delivered the principal address. He commended Barnum for his service to the country and hoped that the ship carrying his name would take forth his spirit and story forever.
The keel for the USS Harvey C. Barnum, Jr was also ceremoniously laid at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works shipyard on April 6.
The USS Harvey C. Barnum Jr. is the first US Navy ship to honour Barnum. The ship’s sponsor is Barnum’s wife, Martha Hill, who christened the ship by breaking a bottle of sparkling wine across the bow in a time-honoured Navy tradition.
The ship will be an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, the backbone of the US Navy’s surface fleet, protecting America around the globe. These multi-mission ships conduct various operations, from peacetime presence to national security, providing a range of warfighting capabilities in multi-threat air, surface, and subsurface domains.

I have been on DDG-92 the USS Momsen. I went on board her back in the summer of 2020. She was at Everett navy base. I went with some people within my staff. The commanding general, his chief of staff and his Deputy Commander were not available and neither was the G3. I ended up being the most high-ranking person there and the announced my name when I boarded and left the boat.
A Navy Lieutenant 03 type in charge of security took me through the ship. The captain of the ship was not available. We were able to tour the cic but we had to secure our cell phones outside. The individual with the older style hat and wearing kind of a suit was our CAC ID card guy. He did ID cards of all kinds in our one-star command. He used to be on a submarine in the 1980s and this was his first tour of a surface ship.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Hog as in large or do you mean something else about the boat? The internet term for navy slang PIG BOAT means that the vessel was a USRN vessel used for training. Is this what you meant?
