GD Robert;
Bahrain is a Kingdom and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is the ruler of Bahrain assisted by his Prime Minister Salman.
Earlier, there was a COMMIDEASTERNCOM or the Middle Eastern Command, which was deemed insufficient to handle a major conflict in this oil-rich region following the first Gulf War. The Seventh Fleet based in Japan that has responsibility for the Pacific, SCS and the Indian Ocean was given added duty to beef-up the Command in the Middle East. Then, in 1995, Redd revived the Fifth Fleet after 45 years on hiatus to serve as naval force based in the Middle East. Today, based out of NSA Manama in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Fifth Fleet operates from Arabian Peninsula to the Red Sea providing security. This is why King Al Khalifa treats the Fifth Fleet as his own protection.
The Fifth Fleet also doubles up as force multiplier for the Seventh Fleet in the Indian Ocean.
