I think it's important also to remember that before these 12 articles were sent to the states for ratification, the debate in congress had started because of James Madison's duty-bound introduction of them to the body. This never would have happened if the Constitution itself had not been ratified by a 9th state (NH) of the existing 13. That Constitution would not have made it out of the Constitutional Convention in 1787 Philadelphia. That 1787 Convention had been deadlocked! Only a commitment that the future 1st Congress would take up and resolve 17 Articles (later cut down to 12) was the deadlock broken and a Constitution born.

MSG Stan Hutchison Exactly! with that compromise the deadlock was broken; the convention ended with Constitution that would be approved by Confederation Congress; eventually ratified by the states and a new government started with a commitment to address in it's 1st term the Bill of Rights.

Our Forefathers were a lot smarter than many give them credit. They set up a governmental system that restricted the governments abilities to control the population, Freemen as they saw themselves. We could very well be at the brink of losing some of those declared God Given Rights as they were expressed.

They were smart enough to know they needed to compromise. Our politicians today have forgotten that. So have the voters.

Yes we are. The GOP hates a free press, the right to state your opinion, and they want to restrict citizens rights to vote. The republican county right next to me just had their sheriff's department lose a first amendment case. The Actual Sheriff was the one who violated a guys first amendment rights. That should tell you some dangerous things. Even the surviving Koch brother said these people are out of bounds and that he was sorry foe what he did with them.

America got created by the skin of our teeth. Best I can tell is that Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and New York actually had some armed conflicts with each other. So, this should give you some idea how hard it was to get the congress and states to ratify the amendments. Our country was already 8 years old when this passed.

Oh, anybody know where is says Dictator allowed?? Didn't think so.
