Scuttlebutts about a potential assassination of President Trump combined with Abraham Lincoln's history with Russia during the Civil War give me the willies. As the Bible admonishes to pray for the safety and health of our elected officials, doesn't this still account as a divine reminder to protect POTUS?

I don't think the Brits would have gotten involved in the civil war as a fighting unit because of the slavery issue. But they held a grudge against the U.S. and would do anything under the table to help drive a wedge into the union. Now if the South had abolished slavery most historians believe that Britain would have at the least used its naval power to support the Confederacy.
