So accordingly "near-death or critical" are also counted as "totally harmless", including those with severe long-term effects.

From the CDC: The range of estimates put the fatality rate for those showing symptoms between 0.2%-1%, with a "best estimate" of 0.4%.
It also places the number of asymptomatic cases between 20%-50%, with a "best estimate" of 35%.
By combining the two estimates, the estimated overall fatality rate of those infected with the virus – with and without symptoms – would be 0.26%.

The bottom line is that President Donald Trump falsely claimed “99%” of cases “are totally harmless". It doesn't matter whether it's 99%, 99.74% or 90%. He is promoting a false and dangerous narrative for personal and political reasons. As stated in the article by Columbia University epidemiologist Stephen Morseticle, ‘Totally harmless’ suggests that the infection doesn’t do any harm.” Unfortunately many believe in this rhetoric. Patients in critical condition and those that even "recovered" with long-term effects would beg to differ that it is "totally harmless".
