Military Officers have always been "Political" Since I was the One Who Handled the Officer Promotion List Put out by the Senate, I Know. Unfortunately that System has it's Drawbacks Too. You Stand Up for Morals, Ethics, Values but in the Process Offend Someone in the Senate Let Alone the Controlling Party. You're Screwed.

CWO3 (Join to see) I Remember a Capt from London that Just Happened to be at the Tail Hook Convention but Little to No Involvement but He Got Painted with the Broad Brush and He Wasn't going to advance because the Senate Knew He was in the Vicinity. Being I saw advancements before even the Skipper I Learned just How Political Officer Appointments and Advancements were. The Tests for Enlisted and Boards for Enlisted?

Former CO of USS El Paso LKA-117 that I sailed on was a Squadron CO at TH. He was laid back, a brown shoe getting the command block checked. They said he was a playboy and drove a Porsche Targa in port. He sometimes joined the O Mess and sat with us USMC types vice the XO table. He survived TH because they pulled some of the allegedly assaulted women into their hospitality suite. I think he didn't aspire to be an Admiral anyway.

How many "embarrassing" Incidents, including the "accidental" death of a fellow service member and accusations of sexual assault, have the SEAL's had over that past three years? Then the crap about trying to override the decision of the POTUS by the SECNAV and the unit Commander. Generals get canned for a lot less than this in the Army.

I always felt (and it may not be true) that the current system of letting the President nominate generals, and pressure them to resign, puts too much political BS in the system subjecting us to brown nosers in leadership positions at times, rather than the best person for the job.

Their boards only go up to 08. It's all raised pinkie from there. Nominations, including 0-8s jumping to 0-10s. Always has been so. Only when there were grades above 08.
