I worked for Air operations at NAS Oceana from 1977 to the mid 90's and saw the F-14 when it first replacing the F-4 right through the first gulf war. Every time I see one on a stick I think I wonder how many times I was under this after a landing emergency.

Wow long time ago. If my beer soaked, old AF (Air Force, Air Force) mind, serves me right, the Iran F14 had the TF-30-p3 eng.. Without getting all nerdy, the Pratt and wittney eng, had parts that had limited service life. One was the start air valve (football vale). The only way I know that is I worked on F-111E/FB-111As with similar engs.

The F16 and F18 (was originally the Northrop YF17 I think) are as old or nearly as old as the F14
