Saturday Night's Topic: There’s an App for That: Using Mobile Apps to Augment Treatment for PTSD, TBI, and other service-related problems.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” - Arthur C. Clarke
We veterans, and active military, like our care quick, convenient, and discreet- like our mobility in combat. . Mobile mental health apps are becoming more and more abundant and available, and with the increase in the number of HIPPA-compliant apps being introduced, clinicians have an ethical obligation to consider the use of these apps to help their clients take control of their health. Mobile apps go everywhere with the client, so they can check in between appointments or whenever they feel the need for support. Their provider has selected appropriate, evidence-based, mobile apps for them to help manage their specific symptoms. Mobile technology allows clients to be in the community, at home, anywhere, to use wellness tools to help with their stress and anxiety related to their issues. Mobile technology also allows clients to have a connection to their healthcare team, a sort of transitional object (Lopez, 2013).
