Most everyone I know eat with their eyes . If it looks good to eat, it probably is. Reading this sounds like something out of Star Trek. Except it looks like 21st century Hard tack. I am sure it would go though quite a few field trials... I can see it on the run in the field.. But their is nothing better than hot chow in the field.. COL Mikel J. Burroughs

This is why people hate me-My opinion (yes, I've had my share of MREs in the field) is that an idea like this has to cost a fortune and is probably unnecessary. What's next-bespoke combat uniforms? Don't get me wrong Sir, anything we can use to make the lives of service members better should be considered...but how about funneling all of that cash into something directed at shortening the duration, and enhancing the effectiveness of combat operations? How about the myriad of relatively inexpensive things that get left-off the list, but could be crucial to the Solider, Marine, Sailor or Airman in the field? Everyone get's a $700 Remington or $1,200 Colt M4...but not one, single $100 knife. I received not one, but two full sets of IBA in country...but not a single lightweight portable stove. We change uniforms about every week it seems...and Multicam can't be "cheap"...so why do we still issue the old, OD, heavy cotton sleeping bags? Why is it I can purchase an earpiece for under $50 that allows me to have crystal clear comms off my cell phone...but we're still using clunky old headsets for comms that restrict movement and visibility? Technology is great...but somehow, we seem to always default to "gimmicks" instead of real innovations.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Macro-nanotech in action. Pretty soon they'll be able to print anything. Just wait until they get into REAL nano-tech, though.
