It's been a year since the start of what one librarian here calls "The Troubles." That's when once-boring meetings of the Livingston Parish Library Board of Control started devolving into bitter brawls over books that some consider to be too sexual and harmful to kids. Meetings have been laced with insults, interruptions and the kind of profanity that would probably get you kicked out of the library.
At the most recent meeting in July, it wasn't quite as heated as the 100° temperatures outside, but tempers flared over plans to immediately remove challenged books under review from library shelves-- even if that takes months, or more.

Adult, sexually oriented books, do not belong in ANY grade/high school library. Librarians are some of THE MOST liberal "educators" in the system, as are too many school board members.
I feel sorry for kids today. One of my own sons used to browse porn sites when he was young ... such a shame to "learn" about sex in such a pornographic manner. My recollections of "learning" about sex are that of mystery, thrills and along the way, a profound respect for women. How is pornography in any way, respectful of women, OR men for that matter? It's not ... it's perverse and believe me - I'm in no way a prude.
The worst part of what's going on is that it's more about grooming than educating.
