I doubt if it makes any difference in the grand scheme of this undeclared war on terrorism. All that matters is if you are serving at the will of the President, your narrative can't go against his when on active duty. That has been proven time after time. My opinion may vary, but that is the fact.

At the level it is political for sure and LTG Flynn knew that. Knowing that he did what he felt he needed to do to change a culture in Washington. He tried and it fought back and asked him to move on, most unfortunate but that is the game at the level. I appreciate his attempt to make change. Kudos to him and sad to see him gone.

Generals are "Political Officers" (Serve at the Leisure of the President) and 3 Stars are "Confirmed Positions" if I recall correctly.

I'm not saying they need to "tow party line" but they need to support Executive Vision (CinC) when it comes to Current Operations, especially when it comes to Public perception and crossover between DoS and DoD.

It sounds like his Expertise as Staff Officer (Director of DIA) conflicted with his Commander's (President/etc) Vision.
