My wife went on a video binge of late, incl getting Netflix recently...I've never been a terribly big fan of it, myself, however, while looking through it because she was hocking me to do so, a few days ago, I stumbled across this flick, this is the Wikipedia page...my curiosity was piqued, mainly to compare it with the 70s version with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway...in this one specific, narrow case, I was totally blown away by the sheer pretty close to spot on accuracy of this version, at least by contrast with the earlier one...there might've been perhaps a few aspects of cinematic license taken, though, from what I could gauge, quite few, in point of fact...I like a good deal of what Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson do, though not necessarily everything, all the time...however, in this specific instance, at least from what I could judge, they both pretty well nailed it, along with the whole production, in terms of overall historical atmosphere, costuming, and, most esp, the characterizations of both Bonny and Clyde, which were done in a remarkably chilling, understated way, esp the ending, which, in my estimation, was, aside from perhaps a few minor historical incongruities that, to my way of thinking, were genuinely irrelevant, that I just personally found eminently satisfying, not to mention totally mindblowing from a certain cinematic and historical perspective...I'd read on a few sites, incl, I think, also Wikipedia, that, in the version with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, apparently, a good deal of the depiction of Frank Hamer, the former Texas Ranger who'd been asked to lead the effort, had been totally bollixed up, resulting, from what I'd read, in a lawsuit by his family at the clownish fashion in which he'd been depicted in the 70s version, though I'd also read his daughter apparently remained a close friend of Warren Beatty thereafter, incongruous as that apparently sounds...however, in this case, the historical aspect was done totally deadpan, with stark believability that both needs, and deserves, to be watched multiple times, in order to be fully appreciated...trust me, for those of you with Netflix, trust me, and watch this one, I assure all of you, you all most definitely won't be disappointed, promise...for those of you who've seen it, or do after reading this, I'd be most eager to know your thoughts, whenever convenient, no rush, enjoy....

Coincidentally, I saw it last night. I was impressed by the accuracy of it. My favorite part was that they filmed the killing of Bonny & Clyde at the exact spot of the actual killing.

Yeah, I'd wondered if the other film has also, then, as I'd reflected on the scenery from the 70s version, I'd realized it's looked radically different, as I recall, plus the depiction of the father was obv far less accurate, also...I figured others here would be struck by the sheer deadpan accuracy of the portrayals in the latter newer version, certainly....

Watched it a couple of days ago. Had a "No Country for Old Men" feel minus the action and suspense. I appreciate the effort to capture the real story; however, the pacing of the movie is devoid of any real substance other than "chasing bad guys", left me wanting more.

I can appreciate that, Tommy Lee Jones is thought of also, as a possibly suitable casting, though I realize that wasn't necessarily your intention in mentioning the other film...really super accurate films, e.g., The Great Raid, often leave audiences yearning for more characterization, I'd seen written of...maybe I'm weird that way, I suppose, I just prefer personally deadpan historical accuracy, so far as feasible to reproduce, irrespective of dramatic characterization, I in fact love when a serious historical film is utterly devoid of any cinematic license, though, inevitably, one finds even the most serious films wind up having some of it, like the repeated jokes about wiretaps, which were selected that Fault hadn't initially known of, then acting a couple of times to seem to indicate that he was expecting others tk, like Red Hinton, or Ivy Methvin, when he's explained their role in helping to catch his son Henry...such minimal efforts at humor, though, in those instances, didn't actually detract from the plot flow, and we're done with reasonably quite good taste, in those specific instances, I'd found, though...in The Great Raid, there was a romantic depiction between the real life woman who's been the freedom fighter in Manila, and the senior American POW in the Map camp, which, or course, never haloened, however, some cinematic genius, I suppose, purely out of a desire to try to introduce a somewhat juicier plot for the audience, just inevitably had to include it, I'd only to try to alleviate audience boredom, which is gathered was apparently a complaint about that film, whereas i, myself, ob v loved once again the insistence on absolute deadpan accuracy...guess I'm just weird that way, I guess....
