There were SEVERAL "rebellions" in the early years of this country. You have to remember that this country was founded by rebels who committed treason against the government of the time. The farmers of the Whiskey Rebellion, Shay's Rebellion, etc., were pretty much either people who fought in the revolution or the children of people who fought in the revolution. This was a population that was still naive enough to believe that government should serve the people, not the other way around.

Some of the early rebellions used to be mentioned in history classes, mostly in schools in the area where the "rebellion" took place. But now, pretty much all US History is being passively forgotten or actively re-written in our schools today.
