The F-35 is a hanger queen. Even the US Air Force is buying the F-15x in fy 2019.

Yes, but it may not be the choice of the Air Force. They can keep the B-52 flying for a hundred years but they can't keep the A-10 Warthog flying for another 20!

LTC (Join to see) Apples vs Oranges. Bomber mission will never go away, CAS mission the AF never really wanted in the first place.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Does the USAF get to tell what their mission will be? I bet Marines conducting amphib operations like not getting their boots wet. There is more than a few on here, who know we do not get to pick missions. Do other branch of services have choices in missions? Never heard it from other branches.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint No AF doesn't get to choose, just like the other branches don't. However level of enthusiasm in supporting a mission they don't particularly care for is also common in all branches.

The parallel I see in the F-35 and Tiger II tanks is they were expensive to make and the production rate was inferior to allied tanks. Taiwan is putting its bets on legacy aircraft.
