Always found it odd that the BSA dropped the swimming merit badge and lifesaving merit badge as being a requirement to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Last time I checked upwards of 3/4 of the globe = H2O. As for those in uniform (excerpt from link) ---> "...Not knowing how to swim is a potentially dangerous situation waiting to happen and will make you ineffective on 75% of Earth, not only as a military member but as a human. Learning the basics on floating and moving across a pool is a great start so you at least will survive if you fell into the water deeper than your height...."

Heck, the Boy Scouts made that change about 50 years ago! It was in the early 70s when they allowed alternative badges if you didn't get Swimming and Lifesaving.

Ahh ... the good old days.

You said a mouth full PO1. Made no since to me to jump off of a 50 ft tower, fully clothed
with rifle, and 782 gear just to simulate abandon ship. I didnt know Marines had ships.
Did I mention the OAT, (outside air temp) was 43deg. at 0800, yes in San Diego Cal.
