Almost all the gasoline shipped through the US does so by pipeline. The so called top tier fuel is the same as the next valuemart's gasoline until it arrives at a distribution terminal where the various additives are blended. To determine which gasoline "brand" has the best at the pump would require a full chemical analysis and each week there can be partial changes of the formulations depending upon what fuel additives were used in previous deliveries by the tanker and what residual values remained. Changing fuel filters, and getting fuels from a clean and maintained source is probably of a more critical aspect for those of us who operate the less critical vehicles that use 87 Octane fuels. I am just about at 277,000 miles on my 2002 Ford E150. Had more of a problem due to the wrong type of oil than the branding of gasoline.
