Likely a lot of disinformation going on as well, to force NK's play. In view of OPSEC I can't think of any other rationale for SK even discussing it. Surgery doesn't always go as planned and with Seoul so vulnerable it is a crap shoot. Sure they take out the direct fire munitions and maintain air superiority while closing down their nuke efforts, but some of the tunnels can handle thousands of infiltrators per hour. That's a lot of bad guys running around in town to wreak havoc on soft targets and door to door on that scale is a very bad scene. Collateral damage and civilian mass-casualties in the extreme. It's not like you can tell a NK from SK on sight. Eventually the B1 flyovers won't be for show, but they will have to have firm target packages and ability to adapt quickly to changing dynamics. Not sure how covert the movement of assets required for the "Shock & Awe on Steroids" could be. Once NK sees movement from sites off-peninsula they will likely go preemptive. The B2's have a long flight (without getting too specific but it's certainly no secret) unless they are staged before and my guess is they have folks watching. The US naval platforms are a factor as well. It's a mess, but nothing else seems to be working. China is active in the Region and using NK to drain our resources. Once they say they are out of the assistance mode we will face an ultimatum. I just can't see US waiting and watching NK's ICBM effort grow without acting much longer. Thanks for sharing.

I like your astute comment: China is active in the Region and using NK to drain our resources.

They have so many tunnels and underground bunkers that even the most carefully planned strikes would miss enough to wreak havoc on Seoul, Munsan and other cities within arty range before we could take them out. And let's face it. They'd only need to get a single ICBM with a nuke through our defenses to get WW3 underway. Not a good idea from any standpoint.

It's always good to have plans...but it's not always good...for people in your government to talk about them to the press!

Just start a fire fight along the DMZ, When they start using their weApons we can destroy them. Surgical strikes against all of their nuclear facilities and launch areas. If we invade the north China will send them help, so only ROKs can cross the DMZ. The Chinese are still pissed about US negotiating with Taiwan.

Two little problems with that idea. First, their missile launchers are mobile, so we have no good idea where all of them are at any given moment. Secondly, that still leaves tens of thousands of arty pieces ready to shell Seoul and other cities quite heavily before we can take them out. Also, most of their nuclear facilities are built far enough underground that nothing short of a tactical nuke will harm them.
