Now is when President Obama can and most likely will cause the greatest damage of his term in office. He has made the two worst appointments to the Supreme Bench in my lifetime. He was, however, replacing Justices with progressive ideological prejudices. This time he will be replacing one of the best Justices of recent times, a strict constitutional constructionist. If the Republicans fail to stand firm (which I expect they will fail) the balance of the court will be irreparably broken for a long time to come (although it has been admittedly on shaky ground for some time now). God help us all

This is very sad news. Justice Scalia's opinion's protected and preserved the Constitution and the rights protected by it.

Indeed... by all accounts, a well liked and respected friend, and mentor to all on both sides of the aisle...A best friend to Justice Ginsberg, and a mentor to Justice Sotomayor but clearly held in contempt by CPT L S of course.

Both I, and most of the Framers of the Constitution agree that THIS is how the Constitution should be viewed and utilized. So, it's really not what the Union members, or the women, or the minorities "think", but rather what the Constitution SAYS, and MEANS that matters regarding the decisions of the Supreme Court, and regarding the other two branches of our government as well. Scalia is 100% right here, and the words of those who liberated and framed our nation are in agreement.

The court will be short a justice until the next president. I really doubt that congress will approve anyone that President Obama nominates. They will stall until the next president who will (hopefully) appoint a Justice who was like minded as Scalia. Otherwise, this country could be in a world of hurt.
