Sailor Who Shot Himself on Sub Was Removed from Gun List

If you shot yourself doing even the simple of weapons checks, you need to be removed.

He was removed from having access for some reason. After an unspecified period of time and investigation by his chain-of-command, it was determined that he could be put back on access to weapons and watchstanding as part of his normal duties. The Commanding Officer made this determination based on recommendations from the Cain-of-Command and an interview with the Sailor. Those are the facts I gleaned from the article.

I know, dealing with Sailors that they CAN and often are capable of covering up their real feelings in order to protect their career. Sailor X seems to have hidden his true feelings, very successfully from many people, but then was unable to deal with them. IDK if it was the lack of other qualified Watchstanders or some other factor, but this Sailor obviously (hindsight) needed more counseling or removal from the boat. He just could not handle his problems and sought a long-term solution to a short-term problem.
